Tips From The Pros

In years, such as this year, where the Alewife population is very heavy I have found giving Smallmouth Bass a bait that looks and acts like a dying Alewife can be very productive. I have used a venom skip shad in pearl, minnow flash, or clear/silver fleck with great results. I run this soft plastic bait on a venom 1/0 weighted sickle hook. The 1/16 oz weight allows the bait to sink faster thus getting it in the Smallmouth's range quicker and by using short jerks on the rod I can make this bait circle very much like a dying Alewife. The next time you see baitfish in the area you are fishing ,try this technique.

I saw a boat at the launching ramp several days ago that was scratched and dented on both sides of the bow. The paint was gouged, as were the decals and striping. This damage had happened from raising the anchor. I have found a soloution from bumping your boat with the anchor. I tie a figure 8 knot several feet above the anchor and when this knot comes into my hand, I know the anchor is just below the surface, so I know to hold the rope out just enough to clear the boat with the anchor. This has helped me keep my boat free of anchor "nicks". Maybe it can do the same for you

Colored graphs are definitely the thing now a days, but even with the best screens, there are times when the screen somewhat washes out. This happens particularly when the sun is bright and coming from behind you. The direct sunlight diminishes the colors on the screen. Lowrance electronics has a sunsheild that will help this problem. It is available for the lcx-25, lcx-26, as well as the older color and black and white units such as the lcx- 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. It simply snaps into place and shadow boxes the screen. These shields are inexpensive and available from the parts dept. At mr. Outboard. Stop in and ask Bill or John for a SS-1 sunshield.

I have found a product that will help keep that new Lund boat looking like new with very little effort. It is called "wax as you dry" from eagle one automotive products. I use it immediately when I pull my boat out of the water, while wiping it down. By spraying just a little bit on the boat, before wiping with a soft towel, it actually waxes your boat. The results are no water spots, and a shiny boat, motor and trailer. The more you use it, the more wax goes on. I use it on the hull, windshield, trailer, motors, and decks. My boat always looks like it has just been waxed. This product is available at most automotive stores. I also use it on my fishing rods and reels which helps keep them looking great. Give it a try.
